Gov. Walker issues proclamation declaring June Dairy Month

MADISON (WITI) -- Governor Scott Walker released a proclamation Tuesday, June 4th declaring June as Wisconsin’s official “Dairy Month.”

Wisconsin’s dairy industry contributes more than $26.5 billion to Wisconsin’s economy per year and employs more than 146,000 people.  With more than 140 cheese plants and nearly 11,000 dairy farms, Wisconsin produces 600 varieties of cheese—nearly double that of any other state, according to the Wisconsin Agricultural Statistics Service and Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board.

“The dairy industry is vitally important to Wisconsin’s economy, culture, and heritage,” Governor Walker said.  “I look forward to attending farm breakfasts around the state and celebrating this great Wisconsin industry throughout the month.”
