Milwaukee woman faces criminal charges related to drugs

MILWAUKEE (WITI) — 27-year-old Latoya Ashley of Milwaukee is facing one count of possession with intent to deliver heroin, one count of possession of THC and one count of possession of a controlled substance. This, after officials recovered thirty grams of heroin, a small amount of marijuana and prescription pills during a traffic stop on June 1st.

According to the criminal complaint, a deputy with the Racine County Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle traveling 80 mph in a 65-mph zone on northbound I-94, in the Town of Raymond at approximately 12:52 a.m.

After stopping the vehicle the deputy noted that the male driver and female passenger were moving around a lot in the vehicle, prior to the deputy approaching the side of the vehicle.

When the deputy approached the vehicle he immediately noted the odor of fresh and burnt marijuana emitting from the vehicle and subsequently conducted a search.

During the search the deputy found a golf-sized plastic baggie containing a white powder substance in a purse. Inside of the purse were two small additional plastic bags containing a green leafy plant material that later tested positive as Tetrahydrocannabinol.

The deputy also located 75 small, white round pills, later identified as Hydroxyzine, in an Always female hygiene pad wrapper.

According to the criminal complaint, Ashley told police that her mother had asked her to go pick up heroin in Racine for her. Ashley stated that she received $500 from her mother to buy heroin with and that it was her intention to return to give the heroin to her mother. Ashley stated that her mother uses some of the heroin and sells the rest of it.

If convicted, Ashely could face up to $100,000 in fines, 25 years is prison, or both.

The operator of the vehicle was released and has no pending charges.
