11-day bicycle race ends Sunday in Wauwatosa

WAUWATOSA (WITI) -- Hundreds of professional cyclists will be racing through the streets of Wauwatosa as The Tour of America's Dairyland ends on Sunday, June 30th.

The 11-day race is billed as the United States' largest competitive cycling race and makes its way through several Wisconsin communities before ending in East Tosa.

The race route runs from North Ave. to Lefeber, Lefeber north to Meinecke, Meinecke east to 69th St., and 69th St. south to North Ave. Residents along the route are encouraged to cheer on the cyclists from their yards as racers are expected to go by every 90 seconds.

Other spectators are invited to line North Ave. between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. to cheer on the athletes. Restaurants and bars along the route say they are ready to host thousands of fans.

Children 12 and under can sign up for a free kid's race taking place on North Ave. between 69th and 72nd Street. Helmets are mandatory and all participants will receive a goodie bag at the finish line.
