Kenosha police warning residents about sweepstakes scam

KENOSHA (WITI) -- Kenosha police are warning residents about a scam taking place in the city, in which a person calls residents to inform them they have won a prize in the Publisher's Clearinghouse sweepstakes.

Kenosha police say the person who receives the call is advised to go to the drug store to purchase a certain type of card for a dollar amount specified -- with the promise that the prize would arrive at their home in a few hours.

Police say the person receiving the call is then asked for their banking information.

Police say residents should NEVER give out any personal or banking information to anyone over the phone.
