One dead following triple shooting near 1st and Meinecke

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A triple shooting in the 2300 block of N. 1st between North and Meinecke near Milwaukee's Riverwest neighborhood Friday, July 19th around 5:10 p.m. has left one man dead and two others in the hospital.

The Milwaukee Police Department says a 39-year-old man has died and two other males, a 34-year-old and 14-year-old, suffered non-life threatening injuries during the incident.

The man who was killed has been identified as Frederick Burks.

Neighbors say they are frightened to even step outside.

"You be on the camera and they see you 'oh she on' and then there goes your life," said one concerned neighbor.

Police and fire departments at the scene continue to search for clues as to what may have prompted the shooting. Meanwhile, neighbors are worried the worst may be yet to come.

"Thinking about people going to do some revenge, coming and doing something to people who did it, if they know who did it and they're coming back over here," said the neighbor.

People familiar with the scene say they believe the shooting was likely over drugs and retaliation to an incident that took place days ago, however nothing has been confirmed.

Authorities are still working to determine a motive. There is no word on any suspects at this time.
