Investigation continues after suspicious package found in Waukesha

WAUKESHA (WITI) -- Officials in Waukesha continue to look for the person(s) responsible for a bomb scare near the Fox River on Friday, July 26th.

A suspicious package was discovered on a foot bridge spanning the river around 7:00 p.m. Friday.

Waukesha Police and the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad were called to Bryant Street Bridge as hundreds gathered for “Friday Night Live.”

The package was described as a box with duct tape around it, according to Waukesha Police.

It was found between Main and Bank Streets in Waukesha.

The Milwaukee County Bomb Squad responded to the scene, and was able to X-ray the package and determined it was not suspicious in nature.

Officials say the package was made to appear as though it was a possible explosive device.

Officials rendered the scene safe Friday night.

No one is in custody in connection with this incident. Police were said to be canvassing the area, as well as speaking with businesses in the area as part of their investigation to determine who may have placed the package near the river Friday night.
