14-year-old Racine boy shot, injured while target shooting

ADAMS COUNTY (WITI) -- The Adam's County Sheriff's Office is investigating a gunshot wound to a 14-year-old boy that occurred July 31st.

The 14-year-old Racine boy was reportedly target shooting with relatives near 22nd Avenue just south of Cumberland Avenue in the Town of Strongs Prairie when the incident occurred.

According to police, the boy received a gunshot wound to the abdomen from a handgun being held by a 64-year-old relative. The victim was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.

Initial reports indicate the shooting was most likely accidental.

The investigation is on-going. The Sheriff's Office is not releasing any other information at this time, and is confident there is not any on-going threat to the community from this incident.
