Back-to-school health fair kicks off in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The 13th annual back-to-school health fair kicked off on Friday, August 2nd at Mother Kathryn Daniels Conference Center on Milwaukee’s north side.

Officials with the city's health department expect to see over 4,000 people between this fair and the one on the city's south side set for August 16th.

Each fair has services including school required vaccinations, lead testing and vision and dental screening. Every child that goes through also gets a free backpack filled with school supplies.

Parents say not only is this helpful financially speaking, especially for those with more than one child, it's also very convenient.

"Sometimes, this time of year it's hard to get into the doctor right away.I tried to get an appointment for her and I couldn't get in until October. So if I can get it all done here, that's a great help for me, because then she start back to school with all those necessary records and all those things done already,” said Valerie Colbert.

This year any Milwaukee resident can participate. For more information, CLICK HERE.
