Makeup artist Sarah Brucker killed in five-alarm blaze at Delafield home

DELAFIELD (WITI) -- Fire officials are investigating a five-alarm house fire that broke out on Maple Avenue, just south of Oakwood Grove Road in Delafield Wednesday night, August 7th. A Medical Examiner reports one person was killed in this fire -- whom according to friends, is Sarah Brucker, a local makeup artist.

Colleagues say Brucker was scheduled to work a photo shoot Thursday morning, August 8th, but never showed up.

"She was supposed to be here to do makeup, so she was about 15 minutes late. We started going to Facebook and saw some pretty devastating comments, some very sympathetic comments," said Eron Laber of Front Room Photography. "You just don't expect anybody to just disappear from your life when they're young and healthy and, you know, smart."

"It just shouldn't have happened. My sympathy goes out for them all," said neighbor Richard Marshall.

Brucker was not only well known for makeup artistry, she also co-owned Blush salons in the Third Ward and Mequon with Jhoesy Leon.

"A lot of people came in today, both locations, lots of clients just wanted to know why, how, when. Mainly they came to give the girls hugs," said Leon. "She is one of the most interesting, artistic people I've ever met. She's so talented, was so talented."

Fire crews were called to Brucker's home just before 9 p.m., and over a dozen fire departments responded.

"It was scary. Literally the entire house was engulfed in flames. They have to figure out was everything okay? Was it just an accident? Was there something more to it?" neighbor Jim Smerz said.

"There were just fire trucks from here to the corner as far as you could see. The whole thing went up way too fast. A totally burnt out shell. There's just nothing left," Marshall said.

14 fire departments spent hours getting the fire under control.

Brucker had two children, who were not home at the time of the incident. The fire remains under investigation by the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department and the State Fire Marshal's Office.
