Man charged in death of Samuel Soto due in court

MILWAUKEE (WITI) — 18-year-old Alexis Chacon, the man facing one count of first-degree intentional homicide in the shooting death of Samuel Soto, is due in court Friday, August 16th for his preliminary hearing.

Soto was shot and killed on Sunday, August 4th in the 1300 block of W. Cleveland Ave.

Milwaukee police on August 4th were dispatched to the area of 14th and Cleveland, where Soto was located on a rear porch, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the stomach area.

Soto was later pronounced dead at the scene. A Medical Examiner later determined Soto suffered four gunshot wounds — three to the stomach (the result of a single bullet) and the fourth a superficial wound to the back of the thigh.

Police discovered a second victim in an upper residence. Cruz Robles was shot in the arm.

According to the criminal complaint, Robles told officials he saw his brother, Soto, walk into an alley near 13th and W. Cleveland. The complaint says Soto had previously yelled at individuals to stop fighting, and had walked into the area when he heard a commotion.

The complaint indicates Robles told police he walked into the alley and observed his brother, Soto in a physical fight with a number of individuals.

Then, the complaint says Robles told officials he heard gunshots, and saw a man pointing a gun at Soto. Then, Robles and Soto ran back to their residence.

The complaint says police spoke with a woman who told police she and Alexis Chacon were at a party, when Chacon said the woman’s mother had called to let them know individuals who had previously beaten the woman’s mother were at the party.

The woman, Chacon and the woman’s mother were on the porch, when the complaint says someone came over looking for “Remy.”

Later, the complaint indicates Soto, “Remy” and about five others returned, and a fight ensued over the 19th Street Kings (“Remy’s” gang) and the Chicago Kings (Chacon’s gang).

The complaint says when the fight got physical, Chacon attempted to get a firearm from the woman’s mother’s purse.

That’s when the woman intervened, broke up the fight and took Soto into the street, where she told him he has kids and is on probation, and doesn’t need to get involved in a fight, according to the criminal complaint.

At this point, the woman told police she saw Chacon with a large silver revolver in his hand, shoot at Soto.

If convicted in this case, Chacon could face a maximum of 60 years in prison.
