Irish Fest holds North America's largest outdoor Catholic Mass

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The continent's largest annual outdoor Catholic Mass service was held Sunday morning, August 18th at Marcus Amphitheater during Irish Fest.

Two Bishops, brothers from Ireland, oversaw Mass in front of an estimated 8,000 to 10,000 people.

"You just feel unity with so many people. Being from Irish decent, it's just something I have to attend every year. It's a lovely, inspiring Mass," said Colleen Duffy.

With so many worshipers attending the service, organizers say it becomes a carefully coordinated event.

"This Mass alone probably has 200 volunteers who help make it happen," said Donna Bradley, President of Milwaukee Irish Fest. "Everybody knows what their job is. That's the beauty of it. Everyone has a small piece, but together it all comes off."

Those in attendance say the community of faith unites and inspires.

"It makes you realize faith is alive and God is working with all of us," said Duffy.

Irish Fest continues through Sunday evening with headliners including Dave Gunning and Gaelic Storm.
