As school year begins, MPS still looking to fill 40 vacancies
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- School started for Milwaukee Public Schools students this week, but MPS is still looking for teachers.
MPS says they have approximately 40 openings that they are looking to fill.
The district blames the openings on last minutes resignations before the school year started. The district has now created a radio ad, in hopes of getting more potential candidates to apply.
They also say one thing helping in recruiting is that teachers do not have a residency requirement anymore.
"Almost 50 percent of the people who are applying to Milwaukee Public Schools are non-residents, and that might not be all that unusual, but the difference is that we will be able to sustain them because they won't have to move," MPS Chief Human Resources Officer Karen Jackson said.
MPS says the ads just started running this week, and will run until the end of next week. MPS is hoping to fill the vacancies quickly.
