FBI Special Agent in Charge comments on Monday's bomb threats

WAUWATOSA/OAK CREEK (WITI) -- The FBI is investigating bomb threats at two separate Walgreens stores in the Milwaukee area that occurred on Monday, September 16th.

The bomb threats occurred at the Walgreens on Highway 100 and North Ave. and the Walgreens at Ryan and Howell in Oak Creek.

Officials are looking to see whether these incidents are connected.

"We've seen over the past few months this happening not just to Walgreens but to a number of different businesses with kind of the same MO. It's an extortion really -- where someone would demand money unless the business loads money onto a debit card or Green Dot card, so we've seen that through the country," Milwaukee FBI Special Agent in Charge Chris Combs said.

Additionally, West Milwaukee police on Monday were investigating an incident at the Walmart store on 41st and Greenfield.

Officials have confirmed this too was a bomb threat.

Calls to the stores’ corporate offices haven’t been returned.
