Liquor store owner fires shots, chases off robbers

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Surveillance cameras at Layton Beer and Liquor captured the images of two men who robbed the store on Thursday, September 19th.

Police say the men picked up three bottles of vodka before demanding cash from the owner at gunpoint. That's when the man decided to fight back.

The owner says he chased after the suspects, running out of the store and into the parking lot before firing off two shots. The men dropped the stolen liquor but got away with the cash.

"It's sad that it came to that, but that's what a lot of small businesses are going to have to do," said customer George Henrichs.

"It's not necessarily as scary as it is disappointing," customer Jonathon Michalski added.

No one was injured during the incident but police are still looking for the men who got away. Customers say the crime is concerning, but they feel thankful the owner is safe.

"He's got that protection," said Michalski. "I'm glad the laws allow him to have that protection."

The owner says that was the first robbery at his business.

Police are asking anyone with information on the suspects to give them a call. Click the video below to watch the surveillance video.
