Crossing guard struck by vehicle in Village of Greendale

GREENDALE (WITI) -- A crossing guard was struck by a driver in the Village of Greendale on Wednesday morning, October 2nd. The victim is 62-year-old Karen Ziglinski.

Police say just before 8:30 a.m., Ziglinski stationed herself in the crosswalk at the intersection of Northway and Arrowwood. She was facing westbound and raised her portable stop sign to stop traffic. But officials say an 87-year-old woman from West Allis driving a car disregarded the guard's signal and struck her. The driver stopped after the accident.

Ziglinski was taken to Froedtert Hospital where she is being treated for significant injuries.

Investigators say Ziglinski had not yet waved any children into the crosswalk -- and therefore, no children were hurt in the crash.

Officials with the Greendale School District say the students who witnessed the accident have met with school pupil services staff, and their parents have been notified.
