Sardina to be sentenced in fatal crash from October 2012

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A Milwaukee County judge is scheduled to sentence 32-year-old Josephine Sardina of Greendale on Wednesday, October 2nd.

Sardina pleaded guilty in August to homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle in connection with an incident in which Sardina struck a pedestrian back in October 2012.

The criminal complaint in this case indicates Sardina struck a pedestrian on Loomis Rd. just south of Layton Ave.

When interviewed by police, Sardina admitted to striking the pedestrian — identified as David Budge. Sardina told officials she was getting ready to turn into a gas station when she saw Budge, hit him “and that was it.”

The criminal complaint in the case indicates Sardina admitted to officials she smokes marijuana due to back pain, and lab results indicated there was marijuana in Sardina’s system at the time of the incident.

The criminal complaint also indicates Sardina had received a text message at 2:58 p.m. and read it at approximately 3:00 p.m. 911 was called after the crash at 3:02 p.m.

Sardina faces a maximum of $100,000 in fines, a maximum of 25 years in prison or both.
