Standoff ends without incident in Greendale neighborhood

GREENDALE (WITI) -- Greendale police say a standoff they had with a 42-year-old man in a home near 60th and College Ave. ended without incident.

Officials say there was a heavy SWAT response around 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, October 15th because there were reports of shots being fired.

When officers arrived on the scene, they determined there was a domestic fight between the 42-year-old man and his mother's boyfriend. Officials say the 42-year-old man armed himself with a pistol, barricaded himself in the house, and fired one round -- presumably to scare his mother's boyfriend.

Officers were able to get the rest of the family out of the house -- and also cleared the neighborhood.

Negotiators later talked the 42-year-old man into surrendering peacefully. He is now in custody.

This case will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.

There was a large SWAT presence in part because there was SWAT training happening in the area -- and they just made the call to use the team in this situation.
