Lockdown lifted for schools in Johnson Creek following tactical

JOHNSON CREEK (WITI) -- Schools in Johnson Creek were on lockdown on Tuesday afternoon, October 15th by request of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department. This, as officials were responding to a tactical situation.

Johnson Creek police say just before 2:00 p.m., they received a report of a 42-year-old man who was making threats tho his family members.

According to police, the man apparently texted family members indicating that he wanted to harm them.

Police say family members thought the man was intoxicated, and said they believed he wanted to commit suicide by being killed by police.

Johnson Creek officials went to the man's home near Cedar and Aspen, and attempted to speak with him, but the man did not answer the door or the phone.

At that point, the Jefferson County SWAT Team was dispatched to the scene and established a perimeter.

Around 5:00 p.m., the suspect came out of his home and attempted to get into his car, according to police.

That's when officials took the man into custody without incident.

It is unknown as to whether the man had a weapon.

Nearby homes were evacuated due to the tactical situation, and the Johnson Creek School District was placed on lockdown -- which has since been lifted.

The lockdown was initiated at the end of the school day -- but kids were being kept inside of the school until the all-clear was given.
