Action to be taken on funding of Milwaukee County indoor pools

MILWAUKEE CO. (WITI) -- There were two announcements made Tuesday morning, October 29th as it relates to a couple of indoor Milwaukee County pools. Under a budget proposal by Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele, both the Noyes Park and Pulaski Park indoor pools would close.

On Tuesday morning, members of the Milwaukee County Board intended to introduce a budget amendment to the Finance, Personnel and Audit Committee for funding to keep the pools open in 2014.

Also Tuesday, a private citizen offered some financial assistance for maintaining the pools. Stanley Kass of Brown Deer is now offering to match any individual or business donation to Noyes and Pulaski pools. Kass is making the donation in memory of his late wife, Lee, who was a frequent swimmer at the Noyes pool. Kass will also consider future donations if the community continues to show financial support.

The cash financing needed in 2014 to make the high priority repairs to the pools is $373,670, and the combined contribution of Kass and the County will be used to make the needed repairs and keep the pools open.
