Apartment fire in Brookfield draws large response Sunday

BROOKFIELD (WITI) -- A small apartment fire in Brookfield drew a large response on Sunday afternoon, November 3rd.

The fire began on a second floor balcony. Only three apartment units were damaged, but smoke started to fill the building.

Brookfield officials had to call in a number of extra departments to help.

"Between the Police Department and additional crews, we actually went to a second alarm. Those crews' primary job was to do search and rescue, make sure everybody was out. Some of the residents were elderly or wheelchair bound," Charlie Myers with the Brookfield Fire Department said.

Officials say no one was injured in the fire. They expect most of the residents to be able to return to their homes later Sunday night.

There is still no word on what caused the fire.
