Bank teller's suspicion leads to Kenosha couple's arrest

RACINE CO. (WITI) -- A Kenosha couple faces 97 felony counts of theft, party to a crime for allegedly stealing more than $352,000 from an elderly couple. The accused are 32-year-old Robert Miller and 30-year-old Jennifer Miller. Jennifer faces an extra charge of obstructing an officer.

According to the criminal complaint, the victims came to the M&I Bank branch in Caledonia in September 2012 and asked to withdraw $9,800. The teller assisting the victims got suspicious because the couple had never before withdrawn this much money at one time. She tipped off a supervisor who called police and bank security.

The complaint indicates Robert Miller and Jennifer Miller have been getting money from the victims since 2007 under the guise that Robert was going to get an insurance settlement, from which he would pay the victims back. The victims did have Robert and/or Jennifer sign promissory notes each time he gave them various amounts of money.

If convicted, each of the Millers could face up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
