Continued delay on Kenosha casino project gets mixed feedback

KENOSHA (WITI) -- Gov. Scott Walker releases a statement regarding the proposed Kenosha casino on Monday, November 11th -- saying he still needs more time before making a decision on the casino, and reaction is mixed. Some say they're glad Gov. Walker is taking his time with this issue, while others say he's stalling.

Community leaders in and around Kenosha feel that Gov. Walker is being diligent with the process, but some Kenosha residents say they'd just like a decision to be made -- and are tired of waiting.

"Make a decision. That's your job," a Kenosha resident told FOX6 News on Monday.

"It's been too long," Kenosha resident Carl Johnson said.

Some are vexed that Gov. Walker continues to push back his decision on the proposed Hard Rock casino in Kenosha.

Some in Kenosha believe this project is crucial.

"I am for more jobs. I am for Kenosha and our state growing. We are in the right spot and let`s take advantage of it," Johnson said.

The $800 million project backed by the Menominee Indian Tribe will not only aid in the tribe's well-being, but could also create thousands of jobs for construction workers and those wanting to work in the entertainment venue and casino.

Gov. Walker hasn't given a timetable, but Kenosha Mayor Keith Bosman says he takes the delay as a positive sign.

"I'm optimistic that the Governor will make the right choice here and I`m thinking it`s prudent on his part to try to get all the parties together and keep working toward a solution that`s beneficial to everyone," Mayor Bosman said.

It is now up to the Department of Administration to find that solution.

The agency has been ordered to start extensive discussions with the tribal governments to maximize job creation.

"In business and in politics you try to get everybody on board and to see the value of going forward in a particular way. I think it's prudent on his part he is taking his time working through all the objections perhaps that other parties indicated that they have, but in the end I think he`ll make the right decision and I`m glad he`s taking his time," Mayor Bosman said.

Mayor Bosman says Kenosha has been waiting for years for this to come to fruition and if it takes more time, so be it.

As far as the property is concerned, he said it will develop in some way over the next term if the casino doesn't happen.
