Whitefish Bay students collecting blankets for Illinois storm victims

WHITEFISH BAY (WITI) -- Third graders at Saint Monica School in Whitefish Bay are collecting blankets for families affected by the Washington, Illinois tornado.

The kids are pen pals with students in Pekin, Illinois -- which is about 20 miles away from Washington.

The students at Saint Monica say they were scared when they heard what had happened -- especially when it was so close to their friends, and they wanted to find a way to help.

Students on Wednesday, November 20th said:

"They like lost everything and they don't really have much comfort, so we're bringing them blankets."

"It feels good to know that we're helping people who are in need."

Blanket donations are being accepted at the school on Santa Monica Boulevard. The students' teacher plans to drive the donations down over the Thanksgiving holiday.
