Man federally indicted after IEDs reportedly found in apartment

SUSSEX (WITI) -- FOX6 News has learned the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has indicted Anthony Haessly in connection with events that occurred on October 24th.

20-year-old Haessly was taken into custody on a probation violation on the 24th.

Authorities called out to Sussex on that day found two improvised explosive devices inside Haessly's apartment, located near Champeny Road and Bowling Green Street.

FOX6 spoke with the individual who called police that day. That person lives in the area and says the suspect was showing off his homemade bombs.

The neighbor’s call to authorities ultimately sparked a law enforcement response -- and a townhouse complex was evacuated.

The Milwaukee County Bomb Squad was called out to the scene and detonated the devices.

"I really don't know what's going on with him," said a family member. "He's accused of making pipe bombs. That's all I have to say."

One neighbor described Haessly as quiet and very handy.

“He took a regular bike and he put a motor on it and everybody was tripping off that like, look at him, he done built an electric bike himself,” said Sergio Ratliff.

Another neighbors says the incident had nothing to do with a terror plot, but may have been an illness surfacing.

"I know there was a medication issue and he went off his medication and was a little unstable," said the neighbor.

Haessly is scheduled for an arraignment and plea hearing next week and could face up to 30 years in prison. The ATF will be handling this case moving forward.
