Hunger Task Force, volunteers prepare Thanksgiving meals Sunday

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- On Sunday morning, November 24th, folks were in line at Hunger Task Force in Milwaukee to help prepare Thanksgiving meals for those in need.

Hunger Task Force Director Sherrie Tussler says 750 "golden tickets" were mailed to those in need, and on Sunday, folks were able to redeem the tickets for turkeys!

"What we've decided to do, because we had some extra turkeys, was distribute them to seniors who normally just get a box of government commodity foods every month, and so we're gonna throw down that turkey for them," Tussler said.

Meanwhile, inside an adjacent warehouse, folks were busy filling bins with food, which will be collected by the Hunger Task Force's 60 food pantries for distribution to clients.

"It's got everything in it that it would take to make a Thanksgiving meal or more. We're hoping to get families through for an entire week," Tussler said.

The effort hinges on help from about 150 volunteers -- many of whom say they're getting back at least as much as they're giving.

"To be helping in a small way -- to give back and hopefully improve the holiday season for people is just -- we're fortunate to be able to do that," volunteer Todd Adams said.
