Candy Cane Lane to kick off annual holiday lights tradition

WEST ALLIS (WITI) — Candy Cane Lane will kicked off its annual holiday lights tradition on Friday, November 29th.

Each season, the West Allis neighborhood, bounded by Oklahoma to Montana Avenues and 92nd to 96th streets, is transformed into Candy Cane Lane. People come from all over the Midwest to drive or stroll through the uniquely decorated holiday wonderland.

The free event runs from November 29th to Monday, December 27th. Visitors may leave a donation to help fight childhood cancer. For more information, visit www.candycanelanewi.com.

During the kickoff event, North Shore Bank employees collected loose change from Candy Cane Lane spectators to donate to the Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer, Inc. (MACC Fund).

"It makes me feel good when people always come around here and to see all the lights and hopefully donate to the MAAC Fund, which really warms my heart," said one volunteer.

In addition to the kickoff event, North Shore Bank will collect change at its Southwest branch and West Allis branch from November 29th to December 30th and will match up to $1,000 in change collected.

"Glad to see the community come together and do something like this because it's so important and the MAAC Fund is such a good organization," said one Candy Cane Lane visitor.

Candy Cane Lane’s Mascot Night will be held on Friday, December 13th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mascots from around Milwaukee, including North Shore Bank’s Seymour Savings, will welcome spectators to the holiday wonderland.

“The MACC Fund is a wonderful organization to support,” added Sara Swosinski, manager of the bank’s West Allis office located at 10533 W. National Ave.  “We invite the community to come out, enjoy holiday decorations and donate spare change to help ensure that research continues to find a cure for childhood cancer.”
