MILWAUKEE (WITI) — Milwaukee police arrested a 24-year-old Milwaukee man suspected of driving the rental truck that struck two pedestrians crossing S. 6th Street at W. Hayes on Wednesday evening, November 27th.  An 18-month-old girl died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

Milwaukee Police found the suspect in a home on Milwaukee’s north side late Thursday evening, November 28th.

Milwaukee police were called to 6th and Hayes on the city’s south side just before 4:30 p.m. Officials say 21-year-old Cheyenne Jackson and 18-month-old Erieanna Matousek were both struck by a vehicle. The driver fled the scene. The toddler later died.

Police say the toddler was in her mother’s arms at the time of the accident. The two were walking westbound across S. 6th Street in a crosswalk when a rental truck turned southbound onto S. 6th Street from Hayes, striking the mother and child.

According to sources, the two were headed toward a child care center across the street.

The mother was taken to the hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening injury.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.

Really? She threw the baby when a car hit her? Do you hear yourself? The baby probably flew from her arms, or the car hit the baby first. I dont think you have that much time to react when A CAR HITS YOU!

You are n idiot, how the hell can you blame the mother you piece of trash. I notice you don’t make any comment about the piece of trash in the truck who took off. The driver should go to jail for the rest of his life, how I wish we had the death penalty, all we would need is a rope and a tree instead of all our tax dollars.

The idiot driving the truck who took off deserves life in prison, but our liberal judicial system will only give him a few years!

How innocent is a person who was driving a truck that killed a child and injured a mother durring a hit and run. If the person arrested driving that truck by the police ten minutes later was not responsible enough for knowing who was driving that very same truck ten minutes earlier he is lying to police and an accomplice to the crime. The story at Childrens Hospital may have changed but eveyone is in agreement the suspect a known felon carrying an illegal fire arm dropped or threw an infant to the ground when the police approached him and ran from police. Several laws were broken and not only were the infants life, but several others put at risk by that idiots actions.
