Business Journal: Second Amazon distribution center planned for Kenosha

KENOSHA (WITI) -- FOX6's media partners at the Milwaukee Business Journal are reporting Amazon's project in Kenosha is getting bigger.

Back in November, The Business Journal reported Amazon.com's planned one-million-square-foot Kenosha distribution center is a go.

With that project, Amazon is expected to create 1,000 jobs in the distribution center, planned for a 101-acre site east of I-94 near 122nd Street.

Now, The Business Journal is reporting Amazon.com is moving forward with a second distribution center in Kenosha that would create 575 full-time jobs in addition to the 1,100 jobs in an initial building that is under construction.

The new $62 million building would go up next to the initial Kenosha Amazon distribution center.

The Business Journal says the buildings would be connected with a skywalk.

The first building, which received a $17 million TIF grant, is planned for completion in October 2014.

A Joint Review Board with representatives of the local taxing districts in Kenosha will consider the request for a second distribution center during a meeting on Wednesday, December 18th.
