46th annual Wonderful World of Weddings takes over Expo Center

WEST ALLIS (WITI) -- The holidays are a popular time to get engaged -- and Wisconsin couples who are recently engaged and looking to plan a wedding flocked to the Wonderful World of Weddings event held this weekend at the Wisconsin State Fair's Expo Center.

The 46th annual Wonderful World of Weddings event featured the latest wedding fashions and a unique selection of bridal-related products, services and ideas.

Couples were able to taste wedding cakes, view potential reception halls and hear music from groups and DJs.

With close to 200 booths, exhibitors must compete to draw customers in -- and sometimes that meant dropping a beat, busting a move or even showcasing a live brass band.

"Each exhibitor has to come up with new and innovative ways to first of all bring people into their booths," an event organizer told FOX6 News.

Those looking to put on a wedding say this show helps them to get ideas and even see the hottest trends before they really catch on.

"About five years ago in Europe it became a trend, and I have not seen it in the U.S. and I wanted to bring it to Milwaukee and the first time that we are showing it is at the Wonderful World of Weddings," a vendor said.

This being January -- it may seem like wedding season is a long ways away, but we're told now is actually peak planning time.

"Most brides get engaged during the holidays and so the first wedding show of the year is the most important because they're starting to plan already," an event organizer said.
