WAUKESHA CO. (WITI) — The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an incident that happened at the Waukesha Lime and Stone Company around 8 p.m. on Saturday, January 11th.

The Sheriff’s Department responded along with the Pewaukee Fire Department and Waukesha Fire Department to help a man who was reportedly suicidal.

When deputies arrived on scene, the man drove his vehicle through the fence line to gain entry into the quarry. He then exited his vehicle and went to the edge of the quarry.

Deputies on scene began negotiating with the man — and during those negotiations, he jumped over the edge of the quarry.

Deputies and fire personnel responded to the bottom of the quarry.  The man was transported by Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital where he died from his injuries.

A Sheriff’s Department K9 Deputy Sheriff was injured during the incident while responding to the bottom of the quarry.  The K9 Deputy Sheriff was treated and released from the hospital with an ankle injury.
