Milwaukee police arrest man they say is career burglar

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police say they arrested a career burglar early on Tuesday, January 14th -- shortly after he committed another similar crime.

Officers responded to a home near 69th and Lisbon on the city's west side around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. The victims, a 33-year-old Milwaukee man and a 32-year-old Milwaukee man, told police someone broke into their home and stole a laptop computer.

While on scene interviewing the victims, officers stopped to talk to a man carrying a backpack near 70th and Clarke (just a few blocks away). Inside the backpack, officers found the stolen laptop.

The suspect, a 48-year-old Milwaukee man, was arrested and taken into custody.

A further check on the suspect revealed he had two municipal warrants and was currently on probation for burglary, being released just four weeks prior. The suspect has a lengthy criminal record including previous convictions for burglaries in 1998 and 2002.

The case will also be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
