Quad/Graphics closing two plants, laying off hundreds

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- FOX6's media partners at the Milwaukee Business Journal say Quad/Graphics is planning to close two of its plants and lay of hundreds of workers.

According to the Milwaukee Business Journal, Claire Ho, the manager of media relations with Sussex-based Quad/Graphics, said the company will close plants in Marengo, Iowa, and Pomona, Calif. The two closures will result in about 200 employees losing their jobs.

The Milwaukee Business Journal reports there will be an unspecified number of job cuts in Wisconsin -- but the number of layoffs here should be minimal.

The Milwaukee Business Journal says the company, which prints catalogs, magazines and other commercial products, acquired Vertis Holdings Inc. last January and is integrating the operations of the two companies.

After acquiring Vertis for $170 million in January 2013, the combined company employed 25,000 and operated 70 print-production facilities in North America, Latin America and Europe -- according to the Milwaukee Business Journal.
