Where is the stolen $6 million Stradivarius violin?

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The $6 million Stradivarius violin is still missing -- after it was stolen from a Milwaukee Symphony violinist on Monday night. Police say this could be the city's biggest heist -- and say this violin is so rare, it would be nearly impossible to unload. So where is it?

Milwaukee Symphony violinist Frank Almond did not hide the beauty of playing the Stradivarius. His concert scheduled was publicized. He spoke of the history of the violin in videos posted online.

When it was stolen on Monday, January 27th just before 10:30 p.m. after a concert at the Wisconsin Lutheran College, the arts community was devastated.

Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele is one of the MSO's biggest patrons -- and he is friends with Almond.

"When you dedicate your life to a craft and to an instrument and you have the extraordinary privilege of playing something like this, you must after losing it be devastated. Things that are this unique and important in a sense belong to the community," Abele said.

Abele says Almond told him of the quick stun gun hit that sent him to the ground, allowing two people to make off with the violin -- valued at approximately $6 million.

"It would be very hard to sell unless they're going to give it and keep it in a private collection," Tom Fisher said.

Fisher worked on robberies with the Milwaukee Police Department and is now a private investigator.

He says the videos and concert schedules posted online could hold vital clues.

"The investigation should be going back to take a look to see who's been hitting on their sites ," Fisher said.

A police source says the violin case was discarded near Washington Park. That could be due to the fact that often, the cases have GPS devices to keep track of an instrument so valuable.

Police say the suspects in this case fled in a waiting minivan. It’s described as a late 1980s or early ’90s maroon Chrysler or Dodge minivan.
