Falling ice poses hazard for people in downtown Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- With our late-winter meltdown, there's a risk coming from above for those walking through downtown Milwaukee. Falling ice.

"Opportunities for snow and ice to build up on those buildings and when it gets warm like this, at any time that stuff and come down," said Milwaukee Fire Dept. Deputy Chief Terry Lintonen.

Milwaukee's City Hall is a good example of where ice can build up. But construction awnings there have made falling hazards a non-issue.

Another problem from this week's warmup -- fire stations have been getting more "false alarm" calls caused by rapid thawing of sprinkler systems.
