MSOE hosts Rockabilly Chili Contest to benefit WMSE radio station

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee School of Engineering's annual "Rockabilly Chili Contest" took place on Sunday afternoon, March 2nd. The event serves as a fundraiser for MSOE's non-profit radio station, 91.7 WMSE.

The Rockabilly Chili Contest is a chili competition that pits 60 Milwaukee restaurants, cafes and caterers against one another to determine the city’s best chili as voted on by event attendees.

Awards are given to winners in five different categories: best meat, best vegetarian, most unique chili, best heat, and best vendor display/presentation.

The 2014 event featured an expanded venue that included the Kern Center's first floor gymnasium and the second floor field house, resulting in much greater seating and dining space.

Additionally, entertainment options were expanded, including the participation of Milwaukee Fire Department competitors, chili pepper races in the mold of Miller Park sausage races, a live band, and a growing children’s area.

"It's the end of winter, so it's great that people can finally get out of the house and enjoy camaraderie with a whole bunch of other people. People also love knowing they can support the station by eating chili, and it's Milwaukee, so people love good beer and good chili,"

Food donations were collected to benefit the Hunger Task Force.

One of the judges on hand Sunday was FOX6's Ted Perry!
