Temporary fix fully restores internet to Five O'Clock Steakhouse

MILWAUKEE (WITI) — FOX6 News has learned internet service has been fully restored to the Five O'Clock Steakhouse. FOX6 News first brought you the story on Friday, February 28th -- when restaurant officials said spotty AT&T internet access over the past few weeks has been costing them.

Staff on Tuesday, February 25th found their phone and internet services were no longer working, knocking out the capacity to process credit cards, book reservations online and even stream background music.

On Monday, March 3rd, crews established a temporary connection to an underground cable nearby the restaurant -- and as a result, customers are once again able to make reservations online.

The restaurant says on Friday evening, AT&T responded by providing a secure wireless router, so restaurant staff was able to authorize credit cards and had a dedicated cell phone for accepting reservations -- but the restaurants customers were still unable to make reservations online.

Five O’Clock Steakhouse is very popular. The restaurant has been around since 1948 and was recently named one of Travel Channel’s best steakhouses in the country.

A restaurant official told FOX6 News online reservations garner may of their new customers and without internet, business was down about 30% over a week's period.

The restaurant says when repairs on State Street in downtown Milwaukee are completed, service will be switched over.

When FOX6 initially covered this story, a spokesman for AT&T company released a statement saying: "Due to weather-related cable damage, a limited number of downtown Milwaukee customers may be experiencing issues with AT&T wireline services. Technicians are working to restore service as quickly as possible."
