Items from Packers HOF going to Neville Museum temporarily

GREEN BAY (WITI) -- The Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame has been closed since November, because Lambeau Field is undergoing renovations. In the meantime, pieces from the Hall of Fame are being shown at the Neville Public Museum.

"It's good to know they're going to be out again and not bottled up," Hall of Fame Board Member Tom Murphy said.

Murphy says large pieces, like lockers and Ice Bowl statues are the first to be moved to Neville. It's part of the exhibition "Touchdown" -- scheduled to open in April 2014.

There are thousands of pieces within the Hall of Fame's collection, and Neville Public Museum will offer a much more condensed version of the Hall of Fame's display. However, there will be some new pieces that have never been seen before.

"We're going to have the original goal post crossbar from Hagemeister Park, the new photography from the 1967 Ice Bowl and there will be some other things too," Murphy said.

The exhibit will include at least two Lombardi trophies.

For the Neville Public Museum, the exhibit is about more than just showing off Packers mementos.

"We're looking at the bigger slice of local and regional and national history and helping tell that story through the lens of Packers and Hall of Fame history," Beth Lemke with the Neville Public Museum said.

Lemke is Neville's interim director, and says the museum is going through its own archives to add to the exhibit, but Hall of Fame items brought in for the exhibit will likely be temporary.

"Objects will probably be coming and going, depending on what needs are needing to be filled there, or things that need to be photographed," Lemke said.

The exhibit at the Neville Public Museum will open to the public on April 5th.

The Packers Hall of Fame is set to reopen in 2014.
