New event for kids only at 2014 Summerfest Rock 'n Sole Run

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- For the first time kids will be able to participate in the Summerfest Rock ‘n Sole Run. The all kids race is called, “Kids Run to Read.”

The announcement was made on Monday, March 3rd by SHARP Literacy, a Milwaukee non-profit organization that works with schools to incorporate history and art as a learning tool. The organization has joined with the Summerfest Foundation to make "Kids Run to Read" possible for the first time this coming summer of 2014.

Kids ages 6-12 will be able to participate in the nearly 1 mile run on Saturday June 14th. Organizers say it encourages children to exercise by making it fun.

“Giving kids an opportunity to experience what runners do. So they will have their official bib, and they will get to go through the finish line, and get a medal and a t-shirt. It's just a great opportunity to start kids exercising early in life,” said Lynda Kohler, President of SHARP Literacy.

Registration opened Monday. It is limited to 250 kids this year. Registration is $12 in advance or $17 on race day. For more details or to register, visit rocknsolerun.com.
