Vigil planned in honor of man shot to death near 3rd and Lapham

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday afternoon, March 1st.

The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Mario Towns.

It happened near 3rd and Lapham.

A police source tells FOX6 News Towns was shot in the head. His body was reportedly found lying in the street.

Police say the fatal shooting appears to have occurred during an armed robbery attempt.

The call came in around 2:00 p.m. Saturday.

Neighbors say the area is plagued by violence.

“Towards Mitchell, pretty much, its been getting rough out here. Getting rough. I hear about a lot of ODs and it’s just becoming very dangerous,” Lynn Mustache, who used to live in the area, told FOX6 News at the scene.

There is no word as to whether any arrests have been made.

A vigil is planned in Towns' honor Monday evening, March 3rd at 6:00 p.m. near 3rd and Lapham.
