Gov. Scott Walker signs "shoreline bill" at Discovery World

MADISON (WITI) -- Governor Scott Walker signed Assembly Bill 655 relating to the Milwaukee shoreline at Discovery World in Milwaukee on Monday, March 17th.

“The potential for redevelopment of the Milwaukee shoreline will stimulate the local economy and provide thousands of jobs for the City of Milwaukee and surrounding area,” Governor Walker said.  “Business leaders need stability, and this legislation gives them the certainty they need to move forward with their development plans.  I thank Representative Joe Sanfelippo (R-West Allis) and Senator Leah Vukmir (R-Wauwatosa) for their work on this legislation which will benefit the City of Milwaukee and the state.”

Assembly Bill 655 defines the Milwaukee shoreline and lakebed boundary, which was created in an agreement between the City of Milwaukee and the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad in 1913.  The bill passed on a voice vote in the Assembly and passed in the Senate with a 25-8 concurrence. It is Act 140.
