(CNN) — Instead of St. Patrick’s Day green, the nation’s capital is sporting winter white.

Three days ahead of the official start of spring, Washington is bearing the brunt of another storm.

Forecasters say the region will get 5 to 10 inches of snow. Winter storm warnings and advisories are in place for much of the Mid-Atlantic — from North Carolina to southern New Jersey.

In Washington, school kids and federal government workers get another snow day thanks to the late winter storm. Classes were also called in six area counties.

The National Zoo is closed, too. The animals get to roam in the snow without any prying eyes.
