40-year-old Lake Geneva man arrested following pursuit

WALWORTH COUNTY (WITI) -- Walworth County Sheriff's officials say a 40-year-old Lake Geneva man was arrested on Sunday, March 30th following a pursuit.

According to Walworth County Sheriff's officials, at approximately 3:23 p.m. Geneva Township PD and Walworth County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a report of a domestic violence incident allegedly involving the 40-year-old suspect.

The suspect was reported to be intoxicated and left the scene in a vehicle.

At approximately 3:39 p.m., officers spotted this vehicle in the city of Lake Geneva.  A traffic stop was initiated, and the vehicle pulled over.  However, the suspect sped away before officers could approach the vehicle -- according to Walworth County Sheriff's officials.

A pursuit was initiated, and the suspect is alleged to have been speeding at more than 100 miles per hour during portions of this pursuit.

Five agencies (City of Lake Geneva PD, Town of Geneva PD, Town of Delavan PD, City of Elkhorn PD, Walworth County Sheriff) were involved in this pursuit at various points.  Two sets of stop sticks were deployed which did deflate one of the suspect's tires, but did not stop him from continuing to flee from law enforcement officers, according to Sheriff's officials.

At approximately 3:55 p.m., Walworth County Sheriff's deputies deployed a PIT maneuver (a maneuver whereby law enforcement intentionally makes contact with the alleged violator) on I-43 northbound at Hwy NN (north) in the city of Elkhorn.

The PIT maneuver was successful, and the suspect vehicle struck the guardrail at this location and the pursuit ended.

Both the squad car and the suspect vehicle sustained damage.

The suspect was taken into custody at the scene.

Initial charges that will be referred to the District Attorney's Office include: felony fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest, recklessly endangering safety and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (third offense).

Other charges may be forthcoming.
