Meijer continues to interview for 100 positions at distribution center

KENOSHA (WITI) -- Meijer, the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer, continues to interview qualified team members to fill as many as 100 positions at its Pleasant Prairie distribution center this week.

In partnership with the Kenosha County Job Center, Gateway Technical College, and the Kenosha Area Business Alliance (KABA), the company is hosting a hiring event on Tuesday, April 1st from 2:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., and Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., at the SC Johnson iMET Center in Sturtevant, Wis.

While Meijer will only interview pre-selected applicants at the hiring event, the company anticipates it will continue the interviewing process for the total warehouse jobs available throughout April.

The April 1st hiring event comes after a March 18th hiring event hosted by the Kenosha County Jobs Center.

With Meijer’s distribution center scheduled to open soon, the company is looking to attract additional applicants from southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois to fill these open positions immediately.

“We have been excited to find so many potential applicants through our partnership with Kenosha County and its workforce development system,” said Kevin Johnson, Human Resource Manager for Meijer Supply Chain. “We have already hired a number of new team members in southeastern Wisconsin and this event will help us identify and hire even more.”

KABA President Todd Battle noted, “We are excited to support Meijer as they prepare to begin operations in Kenosha County.  Our community is fortunate to have resources like the Job Center and Gateway Technical College that can assist businesses in meeting their staffing and training needs.  The start-up of an operation like this is a major undertaking, and we want to team with our education and workforce development partners and provide assistance.”

Anticipated to start shipping product to Meijer stores throughout Illinois in May, the 800,000 square-foot Pleasant Prairie distribution center will eventually employ more than 300 team members as the company opens stores in Wisconsin in 2014 and 2015.

Meijer is a Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer that operates 204 supercenters and grocery stores throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky.
