Committee approves resolution for referendum on sales tax for new arena

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee County Supervisor John Weishan has announced a Milwaukee County Board committee has approved a resolution calling for a November 4th referendum on a sales tax for a new downtown arena.

The resolution was approved by the Milwaukee County Board's Judiciary, Safety and General Services Committee on a 4-3 vote.

The resolution now goes to the full Milwaukee County Board.

The resolution calls for an advisory referendum on whether tax revenue should be used to help pay for the renovation or construction of a new sports and entertainment arena to replace the BMO Harris Bradley Center in the City of Milwaukee and to build a major expansion to the Wisconsin Center Convention Center.

The full Board is expected to vote on the resolution on April 24th.

Meanwhile, FOX6 News has learned the Milwaukee Press Club will focus its next "Behind the Headlines" event on the discussion of a new arena.

BMO Harris Bradley Center Board Chairman Marc Marotta, Milwaukee Alderman Michael Murphy and Pabst Theater Foundation Executive Director Gary Witt will be interviewed by a panel of journalists on April 17th -- on the court at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
