Lakefront Marathon reaches capacity at record pace

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee’s Lakefront Marathon reached capacity on Friday, April 11th. That's nearly one week faster than 2013’s registration and the fastest in the 34 years of race history.

The race accommodates 3,100 runners, the last three hundred of which registered over the past two days.

On October 5, Lakefront marathoners will run from Grafton to Milwaukee’s Veteran’s Park. Race day conditions in Wisconsin in early October are usually ideal for the 26.2 mile distance, with temperatures ranging from upper 30s at the start to low to mid 60s as the day progresses.

Like last year, the pre-race expo and packet pickup will be one day only, on October 4 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. This year, the expo will be held at the Italian Community Center on Chicago Street in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward. Also new this year, In-Step Physical Therapy and Running Center will be offering complimentary physical therapy services to all runners at the expo. Runners can also join pace teams, meet a variety of vendors from across the region, find information on nutrition, and purchase exclusive gear for the 2014 Lakefront Marathon.

The 2014 race will also feature the third annual Paws vs. Claws Collegiate Challenge, pitting faculty, staff and students from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) versus those from Concordia University Wisconsin. Last year’s two minute difference between the teams was enough for Team Claws (CU) to take the championship from Team Paws (UWM).
