City of Milwaukee needs $20 million more for downtown streetcar project

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The city of Milwaukee expects $20 million more is needed for the downtown streetcar project.

Milwaukee's Public Works Commissioner estimates that's how much it would cost the city to move private underground utilities if the project is to move forward.

The Public Works Commissioner says the department is planning the project with the expectation that the city -- and not private utility companies, will pay for those utility relocations.

City officials originally thought utility companies would foot the bill.
