Maldonado suspended 5 games, Gomez 3 for Sunday brawl

NEW YORK (AP) — Major League Baseball has doled out its punishment to players involved in Sunday's brawl between the Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates. Brewers catcher Martin Maldonado (mahr-TEEN' mal-dah-NAH'-doh) began serving a five-game suspension Tuesday night against San Diego. Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez was suspended for three games, Pittsburgh outfielder Travis Snider received a two-game penalty and Pirates catcher Russell Martin got a one-game ban, but the three are appealing their suspensions.
