Mom bites off dog’s ear to save her young daughter during attack

(CNN) — A two-year-old can make the case that her mom is a real superhero! The Texas mother took on a dog to save her daughter and won!

Mackenzi Plass, or Kenzi for short, is covered with scratches and bite marks — but she survived a dog attack, thanks to her mom.

Mom and daughter

“She’s great. You wouldn’t know it if you couldn’t see. If you were a blind man you wouldn’t know anything was wrong,” Kenzi’s mom, Chelsi Camp said.

What Kenzi’s mom did right that day was let her own animal instincts kick in and fight back.

“You do whatever you can and I don’t have physical strength at my side,” Camp said.

It was the end of March. Camp was dog-sitting a friend’s dog, who was friendly until he met Kenzi.

“The dog came up and he was just curious and when he smelled her that’s when you saw it flip because I think he smelled my dog on her,” Camp said.

The dog attacked the little girl, so Camp was forced to fight — shoving her fist into the dog’s mouth and even biting off its ear — all while telling her daughter to turn over, so she didn’t choke on blood.

“I only know to fight — so how else do you get somebody to stop? I mean, I would do the same thing with a human being,” Camp said.

Camp has bite marks up her arms. It took awhile, but she now has full use of them again.

“I can actually hold her again. I couldn’t hold her for the first week. That was the hardest part,” Camp said.

So mom’s back to work — and with a little extra protection from the sun, Kenzi is back to playing and having fun.

“She’s a strong little girl and a fighter and she’s meant to be here,” Camp said.

The dog in this case has been euthanized.

My apologies if it seems the wellbeing of the innocent child affected isnt my first concern. But what ticks me off is how they didnt nane the the breed of the dog. But OH MY JESUS LORD if it was a PITBULL!?!!? All hell wouldve frozen over! Anyways tho, God bless this child and her caretakers.

I just read your story about the 2 year old girl from Texas that was attacked by a dog and her mother saved her. What you didn’t state was what kind of dog it was. Most likely it was not a pit bull because if it was I’m sure you would have mention it. How sad that anything bad happens and it involves a pit you would jump right on it but any other type of dog that attacks and no one would mention the breed. Let’s give some love to pits. They are by far some if the most love able dogs I know.

The ladies above took the words right out of my mouth! How disappointing that the breed wasn’t named. Media plays such a big role in the public’s perception of a breed and it just seems that incidents involving pit bulls receive much more negative attention than dogs of other breeds guilty of the same crimes. A dog is a dog is a dog; they’re all capable of biting and causing damage.

The dog WAS a pitbull. And they still didn’t name the breed in THIS article, but that doesn’t change the outcome. It’s so funny to me that you can look at breeds of snakes and say that cobras are much more aggressive than pythons. You can look at breeds of sharks and say that great whites are more aggressive than nurse sharks. But if you say that pitbulls are more aggressive than other breeds, people flip out. All dogs are NOT created equal!

Those are wild animals a Pit Bull is not. People need to stop saying that ALL pits are mean, harfull, dangerous, and aggressive. Not all pits are it depends on how each INDIVIDUAL dog is trained and raised. There are bad owners out there who do not properly train there dogs. DONT HATE THE BREED HATE THE DEED!

I’m sorry but what the hell does the breed of the dog have to do with anything? It was just a territorial dog that went crazy. It’s as simple as that. I’m glad the little girl and the mother are ok.

I couldn’t agree more. Every article we read nowadays, the responses turn into something completely negative and absolutely nothing about the actual event. Usually it’s a political comment blaming one side or the other. People just can’t be positive anymore, leaving get well wishes instead of blaming or bashing someone or something.

There is such a easy solution to these senseless attacks, All dogs not just Pitts should be muzzled, when outside , going to the Vet, and even in there own yards incase they get loose, and especially around strangers or Young children, Save a Child’s and a dogs life

What does it matter the breed of dog? Perhaps they didn’t name the breed because it is not about that. It is however about a little girl that got attacked and a mom that saved her. In my humble opinion.. If it had teeth it will bite. This is what I tell anyone that goes near my dogs, and asked that stupid question. My response is.. well he has never bitten before, however I cannot promise you that he won’t bite. He has teeth. Normally they walk away.

  • What!

In the story next to this one 3 dogs rushed into a house and attacked a dog and the owner, one was a pittbull, so yea, unpredictable.

  • Kendall

If you look at other reports, it was a pit bull. Although we all know not all pits are like this and all dogs can do what this dog did.

  • lisa

Shameful that people are more concerned about what type of dog it was rather than a little girl being attacked. Where is the sensitivity in people??? Always looking to point the finger.
