Two killed, one hurt in head-on crash, speed possibly a factor

WAUKESHA (WITI) -- Two people are dead and one sustained multiple injuries following a two-vehicle crash on Sunset Drive, just east of Highway 83, in the Town of Genesee Wednesday morning, April 23rd.

A 23-year-old woman from Waukesha and a 23-year-old man from Milwaukee died as a result of the crash. A 65-year-old woman from North Prairie sustained multiple injuries.

According to officials, the initial investigation indicates that the 23-year-old woman, who was traveling with the 23-year-old male, was driving westbound on Sunset Drive when she lost control, crossed the center line and struck a Toyota traveling eastbound on Sunset Drive.

"Unfortunately some roads in the county have some sudden or abrupt curves associated with that roadway. That particular curve is not a blind curve. But if you're not paying attention or notice the caution signs, we've had a history of folks over-drive that curve," said Inspector Eric Severson from the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department.

The Toyota was being driven by a 65-year-old woman from North Prairie.

When officials arrived on scene, the 65-year-old woman was trapped in her vehicle and had to be extricated. She was transported by ambulance to the Aurora Medical Center in Summit with multiple injures. Her condition is unknown.

The 23-year-old woman from Waukesha was also transported to the Aurora Medical Center in Summit -- where she later died as a result of her injuries. The passenger, a 23-year-old male from Milwaukee, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials say speed may be a factor in the crash.

Sunset Drive between Highway 83 and Brookhill Road was closed for approximately four hours during the investigation.

This incident remains under investigation by the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department.
