Torres in custody after domestic violence incident & avoiding authorities

OZAUKEE CO. (WITI) -- Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call on Saturday morning, April 26th saying someone walking on Covered Bridge Rd. matches the description of Joseph Torres.

According to officials, the call came in at 9:46 a.m. from Mario Valdes, a retired Mequon Police officer and current director of security at Concordia University in Mequon.

Valdes spotted Torres on Covered Bridge Rd. near Pleasant Valley Rd. in the Town of Cedarburg, and detained Torres until officials arrived.

Deputies confirmed that the individual was Joseph Torres and took him into custody. Officials say Torres was turned over to Juvenile authorities and is being held in secure detention.

Prior to his capture, Torres was considered an armed and dangerous suspect.

The search for Torres began Monday afternoon, April 21st after police responded to a home on Lakefield Road in the Town of Grafton for a report of a domestic violence incident in which shots were fired.

“The ex-boyfriend, who is Carlos Garcia, went to the residence on Lakefield Road for his children. It was a custody exchange. He ended up breaking down the door and that’s where the domestic violence incident ensued after that,” Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Lt. Christy Knowles said.

Lt. Knowles says shots were fired, and Torres ran from the home. Garcia was arrested for battery-domestic violence related, criminal damage to property and theft. He has been released on bond.

The Sheriff’s Office says they will not be able to provide any further details about the incident involving Joseph Torres because he is only 16-years-old.

The case is still under investigation.
